Qualcomm introduces the Snapdragon Cockpit Elite and Ride Elite for vehicles

Qualcomm has once again pushed the boundaries of automotive technology with its latest offerings, the Snapdragon Cockpit Elite and Snapdragon Ride Elite chips. Unveiled at the Snapdragon Summit, these high-end chips are set to revolutionize the automotive industry by bringing unprecedented performance and advanced features to vehicles.

Powering In-Cabin Infotainment and Self-Driving Systems

The Snapdragon Cockpit Elite, as the name suggests, is designed to enhance the in-cabin experience. It powers the infotainment system, delivering rich multimedia and gaming capabilities. The new Adreno GPU provides a significant performance boost, offering context-aware applications and advanced features to entertain and engage passengers.

On the other hand, the Snapdragon Ride Elite takes care of the outside world, enabling advanced self-driving systems. Car manufacturers can now combine these two chips into a single SoC thanks to their flexible architecture, creating a seamless integration of infotainment and autonomous driving capabilities.

Unparalleled Performance and Safety

Both chips feature a powerful NPU, offering 12 times the performance compared to previous Qualcomm cockpit platforms. This not only enhances the in-cabin experience but also improves the decision-making process of advanced driving assist systems (ADAS). The safety island controller ensures that ADAS functions are always on, providing continuous operation and an added layer of safety.

The new Elite Ride platform also includes a powerful image signal processor (ISP) that can handle information from up to 40 multimodal sensors, including 20 high-resolution cameras. This enables 360-degree in-cabin monitoring and enhances the overall perception capabilities of the vehicle.

Flexible and Scalable Software Framework

Qualcomm has also introduced a unified software framework that makes it easier for manufacturers to scale, implement, and upgrade features. This cloud-based workbench allows companies to push new features faster, ensuring that vehicles stay up-to-date with the latest advancements.

The chips’ flexible architecture and software framework not only benefit car manufacturers but also open up opportunities for over-the-air updates and customization options for drivers and passengers.
